Winery Review: In the heart of the Sienese part of Chianti Classico, from our vineyards in Monti (Gaiole) and Vitignano (Castelnuovo Berardenga) we harvest Sangiovese grapes from our massale selection with small quantities of complementary grapes. The vinification takes place with spontaneous yeasts in the modern cellar of Monti using delicate techniques to maximize the expression of the complexity and balance of these grapes. A wine with a strong but gentle structure that is the expression of Sangiovese and its pleasantness. For its long history and its consistency over time it is considered one of the reference points of the denomination. The color is bright ruby, the nose unveils layers of iris, violet, tobacco, black pepper and marasca cherry. The taste is well balanced, tightly knit with supple tannins, mineral notes, a mouth cleansing fresh acidity. Warm and persistent.
Wine Folly: "Sangiovese is Italy's most planted grape and the key variety in Tuscany's renowned Chianti. Its sensitive, tasting quite different depending on where it grows. The high acidity allows Sangiovese to match well with all manner of well-spiced foods. Its one of few wines that will not get lost when paired with Tomato sauce." Page 162
My Review:
This has been my favorite red wine to date. I was curious to see if there was a big difference in going up in price for red wine. I usually have been trying wines in the 10-15 dollar range but spend nearly 25 dollars on this wine. It was well worth it. It tasted like it had a perfect balance. There was no hard or hot taste due to the alcohol, it had very pleasant fruity start with just enough acid to get a great tart feeling in my mouth. The finish was super smooth and had a very balanced after taste of tannins and fruit. I would definitely recommend trying this wine.
