Tasting: Burgundy Wine (Gamay)

Name: Chateau de La Chaize - Brouilly

Variety: Gamay

Region: Burgundy

Country: France

Vintage: 2020

Price: $25-30

Winery Review: Delectable, fruity nose underscored with aromas of red fruits and notes of nutmeg spice. Generous and aromatic on the palate, with supple, mellow tannins. Notes of red fruit and spice offer depth and lively acidity. Expressive, generous and enjoyable right now, this is a perfect wine to enjoy with a slight chill. Pair with all meats, chicken, wild mushrooms, and strong cheeses. Serve slightly chilled.

Wine Folly: "A fruity, floral and sometimes earthy light-bodied red that is the main variety planted in Beaujolais. Outside of France, Gamay has a tiny but devoted following. One of the red wines that pairs with all manner of dishes from sweet-and-sour salmon to beef stroganoff of even sesame tempeh" - Page 113

My Review: This was easily the best red wine I have tried all semester. My friends and I decided to go up in price and try one wine from one of the French regions we just learned about in the Zraly book. We were not disappointed. It had a very fruity nose with a pleasant fruity semi-sweet initial taste but had a nice tannic finish that did not leave your mouth too dried out. It had no heat to it and was overall a very smooth and rich bodied experience that is worth every penny.
